Tom Brady stopped Instagram scrollers in their tracks on Tuesday when he posted a cryptic quote about “cheating” by Muhammad Ali — nearly a year after his divorce from Gisele Bündchen was finalized.
“The personality of a person. The ways of a person. His thoughts. His deeds. His actions. Are all based around his heart,” the quote by the late professional boxer reads.
“For what is a man? A man is his heart. A lying cheating heart means a lying cheating man,” the quote further says. “A loving merciful heart means a loving merciful man.”
Ali, who died in 2016 at the age of 74, goes on to say that “a living heart” means “a living man” and “a dead heart” means a “dead man.”
“Regardless to a man’s title. Regardless to a man’s rank, wealth or position, if the heart is not great then he cannot be great,” Ali had said. “But if the heart is great that man remains great under all circumstances, rich or poor, large or small, for it is the heart that makes one large or small.”
The retired NFL star, 46, then added his own words of inspiration, urging his fans to “be proud of the man in the glass.”
It’s unclear what Brady was referring to, but his puzzling post comes nearly a year after he and his wife of 13 years ended their marriage for good in October 2022.
He and the former Victoria’s Secret Angel were living separately for months before formally ending things. Sources told Page Six at the time that they had an epic fight that involved Brady’s refusal to retire from his football career.
The former New England Patriots quarterback had famously retired in 2021, only to return a year later. He retired for a second and final time in February 2023.
Bündchen, 43, later dismissed that claim, however, telling Vanity Fair in March that the accusation was “very hurtful.”
“If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me,” she said. “I want him to achieve and to conquer. I want all his dreams to come true.”
Bündchen clarified that she isn’t “somebody who is against football” and said she has “always cheered” for Brady.
Since their split, the exes have continued to co-parent their two children: Vivian, 11, and Benjamin, 14.
